Stand in front of the sectional

Most retailers describe left-arm-facing and right-arm-facing pieces as viewed while you face the furniture, not while you sit on it. In a left-arm-facing chaise, the arm is on your left when you stand in front. In a right-arm-facing chaise, it is on your right.

Watch for naming differences

A “left chaise sectional” may refer to the chaise side or the arm position. Sellers do not always use the same shorthand. Rely on the product diagram, full piece names, and a written confirmation rather than the abbreviated title alone.

Map your room

Stand where the sectional will face you. Mark the chaise on a floor sketch and check the location of the doorway, windows, TV, and walking path. Do not put the chaise across the main route just because the online photo looks balanced.

Check modular and reversible options

A reversible chaise can change sides if the product truly allows it. A modular arrangement may be reconfigured with extra pieces. Confirm the exact included components and connection hardware before assuming either option.

Use a final order check

Compare the retailer’s diagram to your floor sketch. Read the invoice line items aloud and ask the seller to confirm the arm and chaise orientation in writing.
